BRIEF HISTORICAL SUMMARY: Ancient breed of retrieving water dogs in the lowlands of Comacchio and the marshlands of Ravenna. During the centuries, the great marshlands were drained and turned into arable land. Subsequently the Lagotto changed from being a water dog to an excellent dog for searching truffles in the flat open country and in the hills of Romagna.
GENERAL APPEARANCE: Small to medium-sized dog, well proportioned, powerfully built, of a rustic appearance, with a dense, curly coat of woolly texture.
Non shedding dogs. They don’t shed much if at all.
BEHAVIOUR/TEMPERAMENT: A natural gift for searching and its very good nose has made the breed very efficient in truffle searching. The former hunting instinct has been modified by genetic selection; hence his work is not distracted by the scent of game.
The Lagotto is tractable, undemanding, keen, affectionate, very attached to his owner and easy to train. He is also a very good companion and an excellent watchdog.
They are a working breed, so they need a job. They need a lot of training and consistancy.
Lagotto Romagnolo are known as intelligent dogs, that are quickt to learn new commands.
These smart dogs can easily pick up new tricks as their obidient dogs
Early socialization and training is recommended to ensure your Lagotto grows into a balanced and well-adjusted dog.
Sometimes they will be stubborn and test they owners but they are not hard to train and they love to learn.
COAT: It has a woolly structure with ring-shaped curls with visible undercoat. The topcoat and undercoat are waterproof. If not trimmed, the hair is prone to felting, so it is recommended to trim it shorter once a year.
Also, regular cosmetology, combing, trimming ( excess undercoat and hairs should be removed) is important.
Shearing can be done with a machine or scissors (every 1-3 months). Before that, it is worth bathing the dog.
For combing (recommended 1-2 times a week), hair removal preparations are recommended.

KURZER GESCHICHTLICHER ABRISS: Traditioneller Wasser-Apportierhund aus den sumpfigen Talgründen von Comacchio und den Lagunen rund um Ravenna. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte wurden die Sümpfe trockengelegt und in Ackerland verwandelt. Aus diesem Grund wandelte sich der Lagotto vom Wasserhund zu einem exzellenten Hund für die Trüffelsuche in den Ebenen und Hügeln der Romagna.
ALLGEMEINES ERSCHEINUNGSBILD: Kleiner bis mittelgroßen, wohl proportionierten, kräftig gebauten Hund von rustikalem Aussehen mit dichtem, gelocktem Haar von wollener Struktur.
Nicht haarende Hunde. Sie haaren nicht viel oder gar nicht.
VERHALTEN/CHARAKTER (WESEN): Seine natürliche Begabung zum Revieren und sein ausgezeichneter Geruchsinn machen ihn zu einem vorzüglichen Trüffelhund. Sein Jagdinstinkt wurde durch genetische Auslese modifiziert. Somit wird er vom Wildgeruch nicht von seiner Aufgabe abgelenkt. Der Lagotto ist gehorsam, genügsam, aufgeweckt, liebenswürdig, seinem Herrn treu ergeben und leicht auszubilden. Er ist zudem ein ausgezeichneter Begleit- und Wachhund.
Sie sind eine Arbeitsrasse, also brauchen sie eine Aufgabe. Sie brauchen eine Menge Training und Beständigkeit.
Lagotto Romagnolo sind als intelligente Hunde bekannt, die schnell neue Kommandos lernen. Sie können leicht neue Tricks lernen, da ihre gehorsamen Hunde.
Eine frühzeitige Sozialisierung und Ausbildung wird empfohlen, damit Ihr Lagotto zu einem ausgeglichenen und gut angepassten Hund heranwächst.

Mantel
Es hat eine wollige Struktur mit ringförmigen Locken mit sichtbarer Unterwolle. Deck- und Unterwolle sind wasserfest. Wenn das Haar nicht getrimmt wird, neigt es zum Filzen, daher wird empfohlen, es einmal im Jahr kürzer zu schneiden
Auch regelmäßige Kosmetik, Kämmen, Trimmen (überschüssige Unterwolle und Haare sollten entfernt werden) ist wichtig.
Das Scheren kann mit einer Maschine oder einer Schere (alle 1-3 Monate) erfolgen. Vorher lohnt es sich, den Hund zu baden.
Für das Kämmen (empfohlen 1-2 mal pro Woche) werden Haarentfernungspräparate empfohlen.

A Lagotto Romagnolo ősi apportírozó kutya fajta, Olaszország területéről – Comacchio alföldjéről származik. Ravenna mocsárvidékén élő vízi kutya volt. Az évszázadok során a nagy mocsarakat lecsapolták és szántófölddé alakították át. Ezt követően a lagottó vízi kutyából kiváló szarvasgomba-kereső kutyává vált a síkságokon és Romagna dombvidékén.
Általános megjelenés: Kicsi vagy közepes méretű kutya, arányos és erőteljes testalkatú. Rusztikus megjelenésű, sűrű, göndör, gyapjas szőrzettel rendelkezik.
Nem szőrhullató kutyák. Keveset vedlenek, vagy egyáltalán nem vedlenek.
Viselkedése/temperamentuma: A Lagotto munkakutya, sok kiképzésre és következetességre van szükségük. Nagyon intelligensek, a kutyusok gyorsan megtanulják az új parancsokat és új trükköket.

Szőrzete:
Gyapjas szerkezetű, gyűrű alakú fürtökkel, látható aljszőrzettel. A fedőszőrzet és az aljszőrzet vízálló. Ha nem nyírják, a szőr hajlamos a nemezesedésre, ezért évente egyszer ajánlatos rövidebbre nyírni.
Továbbá fontos a rendszeres kozmetikázás, fésülés, nyírás ( a felesleges aljszőrzetet és szőrszálakat el kell távolítani).
A nyírás történhet géppel vagy ollóval (1-3 havonta). Előtte érdemes a kutyust megfürdetni. Fésüléshez (heti 1-2 alkalommal javasolt) szőrbontó készítmények használata ajánlott.
